I agree with you that mass collaboration should involve contributing  something of value to efforts such as The Flat Classroom Project and The Horizon Project. The recent GIN conference is another great example of students collaborating on projects that have the potential to be life changing. Or how about the examples of mass collaboration that Clay Shirkey details in his book, Here Comes Everybody? Ryan Hreljac is the role model for al of us to become involved in projects that make a real difference in our world.
